ILCA UK Nationals

Jasper Stay recently had the incredible opportunity to travel overseas and compete at the ILCA UK Nationals in Weymouth, followed by the Youth World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.

He went into both regattas with ambitious goals and a strong belief in what he could achieve. Competing at the highest level proved more challenging than expected, but the experience has only strengthened his determination to improve, learn and come back stronger.

One of the most valuable outcomes of the trip was the experience and life lessons Jasper gained along the way. As his first time travelling overseas and racing internationally, the trip provided an important introduction to international competition. The experience has given him a greater understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level, while helping him identify the areas he needs to continue working on.

Jasper was also fortunate to share the Youth World Championships experience with his training partners and good friends from RFBYC, Thomas and Hugh, as well as their coach, Oli. Representing his club and Australia alongside fellow sailors made the experience particularly memorable.

Looking ahead, Jasper will continue training hard as he prepares for upcoming regattas, including the Youth World Sailing Championships in December and the ILCA Nationals. His long-term goals remain firmly in place, and these recent international regattas have only increased his motivation to keep pushing himself, learning and improving.

The Ron Tough Foundation is proud to support young sailors like Jasper as they develop their skills, gain valuable international experience and pursue their ambitions in the sport. Opportunities such as these are an important part of an athlete’s development, both on and off the water, and we look forward to following Jasper’s continued progress.
